Bigfork

I am currently in Bigfork, Montana, one of the most beautiful places you could ever hope to work. I'll be up here for the next 7 weeks painting scenery for the four musicals being done by the playhouse. I worked up here three years ago, and I've been visiting frequently over the last couple summers, but it really is good to be back. I'll be posting some photos of what we're up to and go a little more in depth with what's going on, but I just wanted to give you a quick update right now. I'm off to bed.... there are signs to be painted tomorrow and right now I'm exhausted! But in a good way. :)

More Craftiness

I had a very productive day today! I finished three sets of ATCs that I'll send off on Tuesday. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of my black and purple color combo set before I sealed the envelope, but they weren't my favorites anyway so it's ok. These photos are from a Feel the Music swap, where we picked three songs and made cards about them, and a Comical swap. I'm officially all caught up now with stuff I need to send out. Hooray!!! :)

Here's the whole set together.

This one I made for Dancin' Shoes by Gavin DeGraw. It's one of my favorite songs.

This one is for Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn. Also one of my favorite songs.

Here's one I did for Soldiers of the Wasteland by Dragonforce. The most complex song with the least complex card.

Here is back of the Some Postman envelope. I made a card and an envelope, since the song is about stealing love letters.

The front of the envelope.

The front of the card and the envelope.

and the inside of the card.

Here's the set of comical cards together.

This one was a play on the game everyone does with their fortune cookies... reading "in bed" after the fortune.

This is a "crowbar"...get it? :D

And here we have a meal ticket. This one actually cracks me up and I totally just did it off the top of my head.

Fairy Dust

So I just made a fairy! I started working on her yesterday and I finished this evening, took me about 8 hours total I think. This was for my return scavenger hunt items that I'm going to be sending away, which is a shame cause I really like her. I made her out of felt, embroidery floss, tulle, yarn, and some fiberfill stuffing. Isn't she cute?

This is the front.....

....and that's the back....

....and here's a closeup of the face. :)

Goodies!

So I found my memory stick this afternoon....it was in my computer. *d'oh!* Anyway, I took pictures of the stuff I got from the Scavenger Hunt PIF (pay it forward) I was just recently a part of. The goal here was to give a list of six words and have the person you were trading with find items to go with those words. Mine were: ladybugs, theatre, ivy, travel, cats and quotes.

(Just a PS, I realize now I forgot to take a photo of it, but I also received a ring of ivy with this stuff, which upon discovery I put on my head.)

This was the collective of goodies: In the back there are some ticket stubs and postcards from theatrical events, in the middle are some atc-sized portions of maps and an international postage sticker, and on the bottom is a Japanese "lucky cat" and a matchbox full of quotations.

Here is a closer view of the matchbox and quotations. They're all really excellent ones as well, I enjoyed reading them.

And last but not least, the bag they all came in! How awesome is that? I've been carrying this bag around since I got it, and not a day goes by without someone making a comment about it. When I was apartment hunting in Vegas the girls at the front desk of the places would ask about my bag before even helping me! I think I actually talked 4 people into joining Nervousness because of it. :)

Slight change of plans

So, unfortunately my day didn't go as well as I had hoped it would. Frank tells me they're in a hiring freeze until the end of August/September, and also that King wants to sit down and talk with me, but only when I'm in town for good. I explain to him that I can't really move down without a job because I have no way to support myself, but I'll see what I can do. I then have to tell Linda that I don't have a job, so I can't get the loan. She tells me it's ok, and to keep in touch and let me know what I'm up to. The condo I saw that morning really wasn't as great as I had hoped it would be anyway, so it kind of all worked out. I then spent the afternoon apartment hunting again and totally wore myself out. I had thought that maybe I'd just try and come down in mid-June and find a regular job until Frank was hiring again. I also called Desert Entertainment, who said that they can't guarantee work because it's also their slow season, and they want me to be in town before they hire me, but still to fax them my resume, which I will do. So all this happens on Wednesday. Thursday morning, Brach calls me from Bigfork saying that one of their techs told them yesterday they can't come and would I be interested? It kind of took me by surprise, but I agreed. I mean, what else am I going to do but sit on my parents couch and be a bum. At least this way I'll be making some money. I'm only working for the build period, which goes through mid-July, so that gives me the end of July to sort of hang out and do things, and then I plan to head down at the beginning of August, probably with Erin at that point. Then at least I won't be hanging out jobless as long, and I'll still be in town a little while before they start to do the hiring. Oh, and also, Frank had told me to keep him posted on what I was up to, so I sent him an email that evening saying I was going to be in Bigfork and would probably make it down the beginning of August, and literally three minutes later I got one back saying "I'll see you in Bigfork!" So yay. :) I guess everything works itself out....it always does, I don't know why I'm still surprised. But I'm very glad that at least I have things working out for me a little bit, even though it's not in the way I had originally planned.

On a side note, I plan to still keep up with at least some of my Nervousness things, and I keep meaning to get pictures of the stuff I've gotten back so far, but I haven't yet. I'll do that here in the next couple days and get those posted so you can see them. :)

Sunshine and pie

So I'm back in Las Vegas for week scoping things out for The Big Move. I have all my important appointments tomorrow:
9:30 a.m. - looking at potential condo
12:00 p.m. - meeting with potential boss
2:00 p.m. - meeting with mortgage broker
It's a very important day for me....everything kinda hinges on it, which terrifies me. I'm hoping my day will go like this:
"YES! I love the condo! I want to live here and I need it now!"
"YES! I'd love to hire you, of course you can have a job!"
"YES! You've been approved for your loan! Here's all your money!"
That would be awesome. Beyond awesome. All I really need is the job though...if I get the job, everything else will fall in place. So wish me the best of luck! I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes. :)

Craftiness

So, I'm finally done with school now, and it's such a good feeling. I'm trying to get all of my stuff figured out - house, job, and whatnot - so that I can have some peace of mind. I should be moving down by the end of May, early June if all goes well.

Until then, however, I've been hanging out making some crafty-type things. I rejoined Nervousness.org, an art-share website. I had forgotten how much I liked being a part of it. I thought I'd post pics of what I'm doing here in case anyone was interested :) And if you feel so inclined, do comment on them and tell me what you think!

These are my most recent set of cards. The swap was entitled "A Week in Your Life" and the object was to make a set of 7 cards - one for each day- depicting what you did. I chose the week I was in Vegas.

Next, we have a postcard that a made with a requested Shakespearian theme.

And finally, a set of cards for a "Do What You Do" swap. It was make a set of 3 cards with any theme you like, just to sort of let other people get a look at the type of stuff you do. I really enjoyed making these. And yes, that is a baby origami crane attached to the one on the right. :)

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the first set I made...they for an "April Showers" swap. They weren't up to my usual standard, just being the first I've made in over 4 years, but I still liked them. Oh well.

I'll continue to post my work here in case anyone is interested, so check back occasionally to see what new and crafty things I've been working on! :D
