Pizza Pizza!

Hello all!
I had put out a call for suggestions on Twitter, and got back a couple good answers.  Daffy (go visit her blog.  No seriously, go.  I'll wait.) suggested basil.  Hmm...interesting.  I don't often use basil in my cooking, which is odd cause I do really like it.  Ok, so that was one good suggestion.  Then I got another suggestion for homemade pizza.  Ooo....I like.  As an added bonus, I would be able to combine the two suggestions when I finally did embark on my kitchen adventures.

As I usually do, I went to foodnetwork.com to start my search for a basic pizza dough recipe.  I settled on a recipe by Mr. Bobby Flay this time, which you can find here.  This dough came together really easily, and made enough for two 12" pizzas.  The dough I didn't plan to use right away I put in the fridge and just used the next day.  The first time I made the dough, I used white whole wheat flour, which gave a chewier texture than the all-purpose flour I used the next time.  Both were delish, it just depends on what your preference is for crusts.

The first pizza I made was, what one might call, a "gourmet" pizza.  But I call a crazy pizza.  I made a quick alfredo sauce (cream, bay leaf, little bit of flour) for the base, then sauteed some apples and onions in a pan before adding them on top.  On that, a thin layer of sliced ham.  Last, some crumbled bacon, then the topping of mozzarella cheese. It tasted awesome, but was kind of a mess because it was so tall.
After this pizza, I learned some lessons in proper pizza layering, which I fixed for my future experiments.
The next of which was just a simple margarita pizza.  Margarita meaning tomato, mozzarella, and basil.  Which turned out superbly.
Yum.

I have made a couple more since this first time, as I mentioned.  One I don't have a picture of, was a delicious veggie pizza with sauteed zucchini, onions, and broccoli.  The other one that you'll see below, is a BBQ chicken pizza.  BBQ sauce for the base (obviously), chunks of chicken, tomato, bacon, onion, and a mix of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
Soooo good.

And with that my friends, I leave you with my pizza-inspired post.  Until next time!

Little Update

This job has been a total whirlwind from the get-go!  The days are flying by, and by the time I get home and eat, it's almost time to go to bed again.  I had plans to catch up on my blogging this last weekend, but I wound up having to go into work one day, and then needed to go grocery shopping the next.  Always an excuse.  How can I stop making excuses?  I am the queen of having a reason to NOT do something until "later"and that has. to. stop.  Anyone have suggestions on how I can kick my butt into gear?  To start I will say that my one goal this weekend is to finish the uncompleted posts I have in my queue.  I mean seriously, how lazy can I get, they're already started!  Thanks for sticking with me.  :)
