Wouldn't it just make sense?

Hi guys!  No mingle this week, sorry.  :(  I've had the busiest last two days, you don't even know.  You know why you don't know?  Cause I haven't blogged in ages.  I'm starting to get really bad about that.  I refuse to slide back into not posting for weeks.  REFUSE!  But yeah, the last couple days I've been at both my jobs, which makes for 10 to 13 hour days.  And after that?  I don't want to do anything but visit with Ben & Jerry and then go to bed.
Anywork, here's my little tidbit for you today.
Ok, so in this day and age we as a people are becoming more and more health conscience.  Companies are starting to seek out better and more natural ingredients.  You can find "New! 100% Natural" and "Organic Ingredients!" labels popping up all over the place.  Now, I think this is fabulous.  I'm all about eating better.  However, I have two questions.

1) What *exactly* were you using to begin with?
and
2) If your product is improved, and, by your pronunciation "the same but better," WHY then do you not stop making the old product with whatever it is you were using and just make the "newer and better" version?

Seriously.  I mean, wouldn't that make sense?  Item A and Item B are the same.  They look the same, they taste the same, they smell the same.  Except Item B is made of better stuff and is better for you.  Why even bother with Item A?  From what I can tell, all you're doing is doubling your production cost and promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.

So I ask you.  What do you think?  Can you, blogland, shed some light on this for me?  What are your thoughts?

I guess the labels are mostly lies. What a shock.

"Hey, we took out a half gram of fat, but we added a tad bit more sodium. Our records show that fat is less liked than sodium, so let's just tell em it's new and improved."

"That's a hell of an idea, Steve. You're getting a promotion. Now get me the label guy!"

I imagine it all kind of goes like that...

I think all they do is change the label. They know they are going to loose sales with all the new big hypes an all, so they just plaster on a label that now says Organic or Healthy. I think it's stupid. OR what irritates me the most, is when a product says, New Label, Same great taste, but it taste horrible. That pisses me off.

I remember Erma Bombeck asking this same question years, and I mean years, ago. Looks like nothing has changed.

This is true. I saw this book the other day:

http://www.amazon.com/Food-Rules-Eaters-Michael-Pollan/dp/014311638X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264772990&sr=8-1

And I'm going to buy it when I get my first paycheck in Three Weeks (Yay for getting hired in the middle of a pay cycle). My favorite rule that I flipped to:

"Don't eat anything that your grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. Go-gurt? Seriously."

..or something like that. I think that's a good rule over all :D

Oh man I'm so bad with labels and all that stuff.

Crap I just trying to eat better! Cooking the items instead of buying them.

Wow my dear you need to get some down time. Glad you're working :)
